  2. Change the soundfont (optional).
  3. Change the tempo (speed) and pitch (optional).
  4. Add chorus, delay, and reverb (optional).

  6. Click on "Start conversion" to convert your file from MIDI to MP3.
  7. Download your MP3 file.

Advanced MIDI options

Here you can modify MIDI effects, transpose the song (pitch), change the soundbank (the soundbank defines how sounds/instruments are generated), and other properties. We support the following sound fonts: EAW Patches, Fluid3R (GM), Freepads, Merlin Vienna, Merlin Gold, and Airfont.

Advanced audio options

The advanced audio options allow modification of audio quality, trimming, and other audio conversion parameters.

Set the start and end time of the media file. Invalid or empty values will be ignored. In some cases trimming the audio can lead to corrupt output files. The input format is HH:MM:SS (HH: hours, MM: minutes, SS: seconds).

What is a MIDI file?

MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) is a standard protocol and file format that stores musical performance data — notes, timing, velocity, and instrument instructions — rather than actual audio samples. A .mid or .midi file is therefore tiny compared to an MP3, because it contains instructions for a synthesizer to play back, not recorded sound. MIDI was standardized in 1983 and remains widely used in music production, digital pianos, sequencers, and game soundtracks.

Because MIDI encodes instructions rather than audio, the same file can sound very different depending on the soundfont (a library of sampled instrument sounds) used during playback or rendering.

Why convert MIDI to MP3 or WAV?

Raw MIDI files require a compatible synthesizer or software to play back correctly, which limits where you can use them. Converting to a standard audio format solves that problem immediately:

  • Universal playback — MP3 and M4A play on every phone, speaker, car stereo, and streaming platform without extra software.
  • Archiving and sharing — WAV provides lossless quality ideal for professional archives, mixing sessions, or mastering.
  • Custom soundfont rendering — choose from Fluid3R (GM), EAW Patches, Merlin Vienna, Merlin Gold, Freepads, or Airfont to get exactly the orchestral or synthetic timbre you want.
  • Ringtones and media projects — rendered audio can be trimmed and embedded in videos, presentations, or apps.

Supported soundfonts

The quality and character of the rendered audio depends on which soundfont you select. This converter supports six soundfonts:

  • Fluid3R (GM) — a high-quality General MIDI soundfont, well-balanced across all instrument classes.
  • EAW Patches — extended acoustic wave patches suited to realistic orchestral rendering.
  • Freepads — optimized for pad and atmospheric sounds.
  • Merlin Vienna — Vienna-style orchestral samples with a warm character.
  • Merlin Gold — a rich, detailed soundfont targeting realistic instrument reproduction.
  • Airfont — lighter, airy tones suitable for ambient and electronic compositions.

You can also adjust pitch and speed before converting to fine-tune the output to your exact requirements.

Frequently asked questions

Is this MIDI converter free to use?

Yes, the MIDI converter is completely free. No subscription or payment is required. Creating a free account lets you opt in to email notifications when your conversion finishes, but an account is not mandatory.

What audio formats can I convert my MIDI file to?

You can convert MIDI to MP3 (compressed, widely compatible), M4A (AAC-compressed, great for Apple devices), or WAV (lossless, uncompressed). WAV is ideal when you need the highest possible audio quality.

Which soundfont should I choose?

Fluid3R (GM) is a solid all-round General MIDI choice and a safe default. If you want a warmer orchestral sound try Merlin Vienna or Merlin Gold; for atmospheric pads use Freepads or Airfont. You can re-run the conversion with different soundfonts to compare results.

What happens to my MIDI file after conversion?

Uploaded files are processed on the server and then deleted automatically. They are not stored, shared, or used for any other purpose.

Can I change the pitch and tempo before converting?

Yes. The tool lets you adjust pitch and speed (tempo) before rendering, so you can transpose the piece or change its pace without any additional software.
