What are PPT, PPTX and ODP?

PPT is the legacy Microsoft PowerPoint binary format introduced with Office 97 and used through Office 2003. PPTX is its modern successor, introduced with PowerPoint 2007, based on the open Office Open XML (OOXML) standard — it is the default format in all current versions of Microsoft Office and Microsoft 365. ODP (OpenDocument Presentation) is the ISO-standardised format used natively by LibreOffice Impress and Apache OpenOffice Impress, and is fully supported by Google Slides.

Why convert to a presentation format?

Sometimes source content exists as a Word document, PDF, or plain text file but needs to be delivered as a slide deck. Converting to PPTX or ODP lets you:

  • Open and edit slides in PowerPoint, LibreOffice Impress, or Google Slides without manual copy-paste
  • Share a presentation-ready file with colleagues or clients who expect a slide format
  • Repurpose reports or articles as presentation drafts for further editing
  • Ensure broad compatibility — PPTX works in Microsoft Office, macOS Keynote (import), and Google Slides; ODP is the best choice for LibreOffice or OpenOffice users

Supported input formats

The converter accepts a broad range of document types as input, including common word-processor formats such as DOC, DOCX, ODT and RTF, as well as PDF, plain TXT, and HTML files. If you are a registered user you can opt in to receive an email notification when your conversion is complete.

Frequently asked questions

Is this PPT/PPTX converter free to use?

Yes, the converter is completely free. You can convert documents to PPT, PPTX, or ODP without creating an account or paying any fee.

What is the difference between PPTX and ODP?

PPTX is Microsoft’s Office Open XML format and is the standard for PowerPoint 2007 and later. ODP is the ISO OpenDocument format used by LibreOffice and Apache OpenOffice. Both are widely supported, but PPTX is better suited for users who primarily work in Microsoft Office, while ODP is ideal for open-source office suites.

Can I still edit the slides after conversion?

Yes. The converted PPT, PPTX, or ODP file is a fully editable presentation that you can open in Microsoft PowerPoint, LibreOffice Impress, Google Slides, or any compatible application.

How are my uploaded files handled? Is my data safe?

Files uploaded for conversion are processed automatically and deleted from the server shortly after the conversion is complete. They are not stored permanently or shared with third parties.

Do I need to install any software?

No installation is required. The converter runs entirely online in your browser — simply upload your file, choose the output format (PPT, PPTX, or ODP), and download the result.
