Song BPM Finder Online — Free Beats Per Minute Detector

Our free online BPM detector analyzes your audio file and estimates its beats per minute (BPM) in seconds — no software to install and no account required.

Source file

or paste a link

You can either enter a remote URL (e.g. a location where the source file is located) or a local file from your device. If both, an URL and a local file are selected then one of them is ignored.

How to detect the BPM of a song?

  1. Select a MP3 file.
  2. Click the "Detect BPM" button.
  3. The song's beats per minute is shown.

Advanced options

We offer two different methods (algorithms) for detecting a song's BPM. If you think that the BPM has not been correctly detected then you can try Algorithm 2.

What is BPM?

BPM stands for beats per minute, a standard measure of tempo in music. It counts how many rhythmic pulses — typically the kick drum or snare hit in electronic music — occur in one minute. A slow ballad might sit around 60–80 BPM, while a fast dance track can exceed 160 BPM. Knowing a track’s BPM is fundamental for mixing, DJ work, music production, and choreography.

Why detect the BPM of a song?

Accurate BPM information is useful in a wide range of musical and creative contexts:

  • DJs and live performers need BPM values to beatmatch tracks seamlessly during a set.
  • Music producers use BPM to sync samples, loops, and virtual instruments to a project’s tempo.
  • Fitness and dance instructors select tracks at specific tempos to match exercise intensity or choreography pace.
  • Remixers and mashup creators align source tracks to a common tempo before editing.
  • Developers and app builders can use detected BPM data to drive tempo-synced visuals or automations.

How BPM detection works

Automatic BPM detection algorithms analyze the onset strength of an audio signal — identifying transient peaks that correspond to rhythmic beats — and calculate the average interval between them. Results are most reliable for music with a clear, consistent rhythm such as electronic, hip-hop, or pop tracks. Complex or tempo-shifting recordings (free jazz, live classical) may yield approximate estimates. The tool processes your file server-side and returns the detected BPM value without storing your audio permanently.

Frequently asked questions

Is the BPM detector free to use?

Yes, the tool is completely free. There is no signup, subscription, or payment required.

What audio formats does the BPM detector support?

The detector accepts common audio formats including MP3, WAV, OGG, FLAC, AAC, and M4A. Upload your file using the form above to get started.

How accurate is the BPM result?

The tool provides a reliable estimate for most music with a steady rhythm, such as electronic, pop, or hip-hop tracks. Songs with complex, shifting, or very subtle rhythms may return approximate values.

What happens to my audio file after analysis?

Your file is uploaded, analyzed server-side, and then deleted automatically. It is not stored, shared, or used for any other purpose.

Can I detect BPM from a URL or remote file?

Yes, the tool supports both direct file uploads and remote file URLs, so you can paste a link to an online audio file instead of uploading from your device.
